Valentine's Meditation for parents

saturday love letters Feb 14, 2026

It’s Valentine’s Day, and if you’re reading this you’re likely pregnant or newly postpartum. Either way, this is an extraordinary season in a relationship. If today feels bittersweet, you’re not alone.

I remember every milestone of my pregnancy and that first year as a new mother. I loved my daughter fiercely, and at the same time I grieved the life I had known. Valentine’s Day made it clear that my relationship with my man had changed forever.

Pregnancy and early parenthood can bring couples closer through shared responsibility. They can also surface differences around values and expectations that you may never have thought or said out loud before.

When I work with couples in Born Through Yoga group workshops or in my one-to-one birth preparation sessions, I often suggest a reflection exercise.

Take a moment to consider how you see yourself as a parent.

What feels important to you around structure, discipline, nourishment, education? And also what do you need from my partner, and how can they support you and how do you see yourself supporting them?

It can help to tune into the sacral chakra by placing a hand just below your belly button and close your eyes.

If chakras are new to you, think of them as energetic centres in the body. The sacral chakra sits close to the sacral nerve plexus and is associated with relationships, emotional connection, creativity and sexuality.

Write down whatever comes up. Perhaps your partner is up for doing the same exercise. Take a few minutes with your partner and ask them to share what's important to them. Just listen to one another and learn about each other. If there are some fundamental differences in approach, gather some information about each of them and see what feels right for you both..

Next week, I’ll return to the topic of sacral mobility in birth, the importance of it and what can restrict it.
